Using the E-verify system for multiple hiring sites

December 31, 2007

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has indicated they will allow an employer to register multiple hiring sites for the E-verify program, and that the employer can choose which sites to enroll. This becomes important for PEOs with clients in Arizona, a state that is making the E-verify program mandatory as of January 1, 2008 under the Legal Arizona Workers Act. A PEO may register Arizona clients as separate hiring sites and conduct individual verifications. This DHS policy allows companies of more than 1000 employees to sign one Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to cover all the hiring sites the employer wishes to include in the E-verify program. The new MOU can cover the entire company or just the portion the company designates. However, all employees at the designated hiring sites must have their employment authorization verified under E-verify.
